Mixed feelings on this one. I have a son that was diagnosed 23 years ago at the age of 3. He was severe but with holistic intervention, he is a highly functioning adult. Symptoms of the spectrum show their ugly head sometimes. It's tough to understand what he is going through, but i don't see him as autistic or use the word to identify him, I see him as a human who struggles, like we all do. Everyone of us has issues that range from mild to complex.
What we need is more love, compassion and understanding- not labels.
Be who you are, nothing less, nothing more.
