A Contest and a Cognac
Can you write a quickie?
I have never entered a writing contest and most likely never will. Probably because I still have that nagging voice telling me I am not good enough. But based on all the hoopla I have seen about the Medium writing contest, I guess many of you DO participate in contests.
Hurray for you! That takes guts.
And because you do, I wanted to share an email I received from TCK Publishing about their next contest. I thought it sounded challenging.
It is about the Art of Writing Simply. We all know about editing our stories, eliminating the unnecessary jargon. A good writer can deliver his message without a lot of fluff. He keeps his readers interested by avoiding unnecessary information.
Tom Knowles, the owner of TCK, used this great quote, “ If I had the time, I would have written a shorter letter.”
Isn’t that the truth!
So his challenge is to write a fiction piece in 500 words or less. Don’t worry. You have plenty of time to edit. Entries can be submitted up until June of 2022.
There is a $10.00 fee to enter, and the prize is $1,000. I think it is worth it, but remember, I don’t enter contests, so I have no idea if this is standard practice to charge an entry fee.
Here is the link with all the details.
So what’s up with the title, A Contest and a Cognac? Nothing. I just like the way it sounded and thought it was a good hook. However, if you win the $1,000, maybe we can toast over a nice Gran Marnier!
I like mine in a chilled snifter.
Cheers from Thea- lover of all things magical!
